Everything you need to know about belly (navel) piercings
A belly piercing is a gorgeous placement that can be used to show off a variety of jewellery.
This guide contains information about belly piercings including the jewellery you can wear and pain levels as well as aftercare tips and healing times.
What is a belly piercing?
A belly piercing, which is also known as a navel piercing, is located through the lip above your belly button. This placement is anatomy dependent so you will need to check with your piercer beforehand to make sure you have the correct anatomy to be pierced.
How painful is a belly piercing?
We would rate a belly piercing a 6/10 on the pain scale but this can vary from person to person.
What jewellery can you wear in a belly piercing?
Belly piercings are usually done with a curved barbell. Once healed you can also wear a variety of different styles in this placement including gorgeous belly bars and seamless clicker hoops.

What is the aftercare for a belly piercing?
To ensure your belly piercing heals well, we would recommend the following tips:
- Gently clean your new piercing twice daily with a sterile saline solution - we love PierceMed piercing mist. Moisture can lead to bacteria so make sure you dry the area afterwards - the cool setting on a hairdryer works well.
- Take extra care when removing clothes to avoid snagging the jewellery.
- No high waisted or fitted tight clothing to be worn during your healing time for best results.
- Try your best not to sleep on your piercing to avoid irritation.
- Avoid swimming in lakes, pools or hot tubs for while the piercing is still healing.
- Visit your piercer for a routine check up consultation around 6 weeks after. They'll check how your piercing is healing and be able to answer any questions you may have.
- And lastly, leave it alone as much as possible and let the natural healing process occur.
How long does a belly piercing take to heal?
A belly piercing can take anywhere between 6-14 months to fully heal but this varies from person to person.
